About Big Eagle Lake Improvement Association

The Big Eagle Lake Improvement Association (BELIA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting Big Eagle Lake in Minnesota. The organization was founded in 1980 by a group of lake property owners who were concerned about the deteriorating water quality and ecosystem of the lake.

BELIA's mission is to promote and support efforts to maintain and enhance the natural beauty and ecological health of the lake, while also ensuring that it remains a safe and enjoyable destination for recreational activities. To achieve this mission, BELIA engages in a variety of activities and initiatives, including:

  • Lake monitoring: BELIA conducts regular water quality testing and monitoring to identify potential issues and track the overall health of the lake.

  • Invasive species control: BELIA works to prevent the spread of invasive species in the lake, through initiatives such as boat inspections and education programs.

  • Habitat restoration: BELIA collaborates with other organizations to restore and enhance the natural habitat of the lake, such as by planting native vegetation and removing pollutants.

  • Advocacy and education: BELIA works to raise awareness about issues affecting the lake and advocates for policies and practices that promote its preservation and protection. The organization also provides educational resources and programming to help lake users understand how to minimize their impact on the environment.

BELIA plays an important role in promoting the long-term health and sustainability of Big Eagle Lake, and in ensuring that it remains a vibrant and thriving ecosystem for generations to come.
