About the event
BELIA has been managing Big Eagle Lake’s Water Quality, Invasive Aquatic Species (AIS), and
Fish Habitat for decades. Our largest challenge has been managing the harmful algae growth
caused by an over-abundance of phosphorus. We have been working toward the goal of qualifying for State
and Federal Grants by finding the source of the phosphorus, funding Carp Studies, and getting our ducks in a
row. Preliminary estimate for the treatment of the lake is around $800,000. The grants will only cover
75%. BELIA’s share would be 25%, around $200,000, in cash and volunteer time donations.
